My 2 year old son hits my wife but not me.My 2 year old son use to hit/slap my wife all the time. He use to slap me once in awhile but only becasue I told him no. I noticed that my son has stopped hitting my wife since she has been paying more attention to him. She use to be on the computer for long hours. Did my son hit my wife because she was not paying enough attention to him or neglecting him? My 2 year old son use to hit/slap my wife all the time. 2 year olds need tons of playing.
I think you have solved your own problem there. In my experience, 2 year olds need constant entertainment and attention, so can't really just go and play with their toys. We go swiming, library, toddler groups, playground, duckpond, nap, soft play, art gallery, museum, visit friends. It's full on but rewarding.
I have found that if a child is not told no for things that do no harm like spilling drinks, throwing bricks on the floor and going outside naked, then having a quiet word about the important stuff like hitting is extremely effective.
Only your son, you and your wife can sort it out, but you have described a response to an unmet need of more attention. I would guess if your son only hits his mother then it is she who is the major care giver in the family. I understand it is common for toddlers to only be aggresive to their closest people.
I am glad you seem to have sorted this difficulty already.
